Cullinan hall, 1952-1978.

The series contains meeting minutes, correspondence, memoranda, contracts, invoices, and reports which document the design and construction of Cullinan Hall (1958), Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's earlier addition to the architecture of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Primarily an exhibition space, Cullinan Hall was constructed with funds donated in 1953 by benefactress Miss Nina Cullinan and was dedicated to the memory of her parents, Joseph Stephen and Lucie Halm Cullinan. The papers contain a small amount of Miss Cullinan's personal correspondence concerning matters of finance and the building's design. Most notable is her letter of December 28, 1953 to the Museum's President, Francis G. Coates, stating the purpose of her monetary gift and her stipulation that the funds be used to hire a world renowned architect.
